Father's Day

This year we got together with my side of the family for Father's Day.  My sister took the ferry across Lake Michigan and we drove down to the cottage to meet up with my brothers and their families.  It was super fun, because as always, Ingrid loves her cousins!  I love it, because as always, someone else is always watching my kids so I finally get to sit with a margarita and relax!

You'll notice I have no pictures of my kids with their dad on this father's day weekend.  That is because he spent lots of time with them without me, where I couldn't nose my way in with my stupid camera and say "wait, do that again!  Now look over here!  Ingrid, smile, what are you making that face for?"  No, instead they got to go on a father/daughter kayak ride, go the park, go swimming in the lake, and not have mom bothering them with documenting life.

So let me just say that I am proud of the dad Brendan is.  He loves to play with the kids, even after a long day at work he is happy to come home and wrestle, play ball, or watch the Simpsons with his kids.  Otis' eyes just light up when he sees his Dada walk through the door.  I am lucky to have such a good husband and baby daddy.

Mess Making

Here's to learning through messy play!  Ingrid used to love painting, playing with rice and beans, washing dishes, and other messy activities.  Somehow I forgot about that and we hadn't done it in a long time.  But this week we have done plenty.

I got the bowl of rice and beans out, to see how Otis would do.  He is in the shove-everything-into-your-mouth phase so I thought maybe he'd try to eat it, but surprisingly after I told him no a couple times he stopped trying to eat anything.  He loved to throw the rice and play with the guys.

Ingrid sat by and licked the beater from the cookies we were making at the time.

Yesterday Ingrid asked to do shaving cream painting so we did.  It was way messier than the first time, because I used too much food dye.  The blue was staining my hands so I had to mix more shaving cream in.  Luckily it did not stain them.  Otis was having a LOT of fun!

And then today after playing at a friend's house, we stopped by the thrift store and scored this fun toy.  Ingrid said she had it at school, and I can totally see this being in a Montessori class.  There are cards with pictures on it and rainbow foam pieces in different shapes.  You have to match the shapes up to make the pictures, it's pretty neat actually.  Ingrid loved it!  And it was only 90cents, yay!

Bath Time

Every night after dinner is bath time.  This summer, both kids have been especially filthy by 6pm, so a bath is necessary.  But even if it weren't, we'd still give them one.  They just have so much fun!  Otis splashes and chews on plastic fish, and Ingrid makes "magic potions" with her bubbles and some measuring cups.  She would sit for an hour if we'd let her, letting the water get cold and turning pruney and purple.  I got this picture of them tonight and it just made me so happy we decided to have another kid!

First Bath.

Otis' belly button stump fell off last night, so he was able to take a bath in his little tub for the first time!  Ingrid always thought it was a piece of poo stuck to him, so she was happy to see it gone.  And she noticed his penis for the first time while looking at his belly button, so we had to have that talk...She said ooh, we have to show Daddy!  I told her I think Daddy already knows about them!
When I was drying Otis off I was reminded of a picture we have of Ingrid when she was tiny, so I had to take one of him, too.  Here they are, siblings for sure!  I never realized how similar their noses are until looking at these pictures side by side!

The nurse came for the last time yesterday to weigh Fat Man.  He's now tipping the scales at 6lbs 1oz!!  Way to go Otis!
