Halloween and a Dr. Checkup

Guess who weighs 21 pounds!!

We went to the doctor yesterday and Fat Man checked out completely fine.  He is right on target for everything he's supposed to be doing and has gained a ton of weight and grown crazy big.  Who was born six weeks early? 

Our Halloween was pretty fun, even though we had it early.  Saturday we got dressed up to go Trick or Treating and we had a blast!!  Ingrid was jumping up and down from excitement for the entire afternoon.  She does not need candy to be over excited! 

Two streets away from our house was insane.  Every house was completely decorated and there were about a million and half people there.  It was a madhouse, and it was so fun!  We came back to our house to find our candy bowl empty and decided to call it a night.  People were still knocking even though we closed our door and turned off our porch light and blew out the candles in our pumpkins.  Hello?  Take a hint!  We're out of candy!  Definitely going to buy two big bags next year!

Dressing Up!

Yesterday we braved the children's museum for what I thought was going to be a fun time of trick or treating, Halloween fun.  They advertised this thing like crazy, so I thought for sure it would be awesome!  Trick or treat stations!  Fall crafts!  Yay!

So even though we all have colds and I had to shove a full box of tissue in my purse, we dressed up and went.  Otis in his giraffe costume:

We got there and there were dressed up workers signing people in, giving them fliers and bags for their treats.  I was so excited!  How fun for Ingrid!  Then we went upstairs to the museum, where there were four thousand kids running around because it was a day off school.  It seemed like every mom had a double stroller that they conveniently left completely in the way (empty strollers just there to carry all their junk.  I HATE THAT!!)  I searched for the trick or treat stations.  Nothing.  As we walked around I saw a big basket of Smarties.  Just sitting there.  No one near it.  Was this a trick or treat station?  Apparently so.  And there were a whopping TWO of them.  TWO!  In the whole effing children's museum, there were two trick or treat stations.  My goodness, how overwhelmingly fun...

Luckily Ingrid didn't care.  She just likes the museum so much she was having fun playing with everything and forgot about the Halloween part of it anyway.  And tonight is trick or treating in our neighborhood, where they close off the street on our block and we can partay and trick or treat for real.  Yay!

Sound of Music Party

Our friends had a themed birthday party yesterday.  I absolutely love Sound of Music, so I was excited for the party.  I had made the birthday girl's dress (green and white, like the curtain dresses) and I had the perfect dress for Ingrid to wear.  Awhile ago I got a dress from Alisha at Lishyloo and it was spot on for this party!

Otis needed something, too, so I whipped up a faux lederhosen shirt for him.  Gotta love felt!

Adeline seemed to have had a great party, and we felt lucky to be included in her day.  Yay Sound of Music!!

It Ain't Easy Bein' Green...

Little one was in a green diaper on a green blanket this morning.  What a little leprechaun!

And while he was being Irish, Ingrid was being British.  We watched the royal wedding this morning (DVRed it, was not about to wake up at 3am...) After the wedding she had to put on her princess dress and crown.  Oh lord.

Yesterday was fun, too!  We went to the Betty Brinn Children's Museum and Ingrid got to run loose.  We got a membership that will come in handy on rainy days and in the winter.  When we got home, Otis, who had been asleep in the Moby the entire outing, woke up and was nothing but smiles.  Yay!

Cuteness.  And now it's the weekend and it's supposed to be nice and sunny and we have lots of plans for walks, parks, and coffee with friends.  Awesome.

Hanging Out, Being Crabby.

It's been snowy and gross around these parts lately.  It makes me want to cozy up inside and not go anywhere, but I think that's getting to Ingrid.  She wants to play and move and I want to sit on the couch and read or just look at Otis. 

Ingrid has been doing well with having a brother, but just the past few days it seems like it's hitting her that she isn't the only one.  I'm not sure why, it's been over a month since we've had Otis, but just recently she has started acting out in a major way!  Lots of power struggles, lots of demanding we do things for her, lots of not listening.  I'm trying to be patient but it's hard.  REALLY HARD.  Especially when it's already been a long day and I'm alone with both kids and downstairs feeding Otis and she screams that she needs me to help get her water bottle that is right by her bed.  And when I call up the stairs that she can get it herself, she starts to cry "Mama, you don't have to yell at me!" 

Sigh...

Anyway, today was fun even though we had a couple rough patches.  I got her wings to stay (ribbon tied at her shoulders!) and she wore her new dress around and played with her fire truck.  I laid Otis on the floor and we sang songs to him.  It's so interesting to see him wide eyed and awake, he is really starting to act like a normal baby.

Hopefully soon I'll feel like getting out of the house again and we'll be able to go play with her friends.  And hopefully soon Otis will sleep more at night and I won't be so tired during the day!

New Clothes

Yesterday I finally got my ass in gear to sew again!  I told Ingrid right before I ended up in the hospital that I would make her a pair of new cozy pants.  And since I've been home she keeps asking me when I'm going to make them...So I did yesterday and then what do you know, they are enormous and won't fit for another year.  Oops. 

Otis' fit him, though.  Do you know how hard it is to make newborn pants??  Their inseam is like three inches!  I cut these out based on a pair of pants I'd make my Cabbage Patch doll that Ingrid plays with.  No joke, my kid wears doll clothes...

We got a package in the mail from my brother and his family yesterday.  Guess what was in it for Ingrid?!  She gasped "ooh, a tooth fairy dress!"  There are wings as well but I have to come up with something to keep them on, they kept falling off.

Ingrid threw the world's biggest tantrum last night, it was amazing.  Brendan was trying to get her pjs on and she kept kicking him.  We told her no books before bed if she kept doing it.  She kept kicking, we said no books, and she lost it.  LOST IT!  Screaming, crying, stomping her feet, hitting the walls, you name it, she did it to show how pissed she was.  It's really the first tantrum we've had, usually she lets it go pretty easily.  But last night she kept carrying on for over an hour!  I put her in bed, she jumped up screaming about books.  She finally calmed down for awhile and then twenty minutes later she'd start crying about books again.  One am and she wakes up crying for books.  I hope that lesson will stick with her!  It was not a pleasant thing to go through, and I totally see why parents cave in and just give the kid what they want...

Fairies, not Princesses

Yesterday we went to a friend's house.  Neither of us are into the whole princessy girly thing, but her family has gotten her daughter some dress up clothes that are very frilly and pink and come with wands and crowns.  She was so funny, she said "fairies are okay,  princesses are not."  Isn't that funny?  I feel the same way.  If Ingrid says she looks like Abby Cadabby or the tooth fairy, I'm fine with that.  But princess?  No, stop please.

Anyway, the girls had so much fun in their flouncy skirts and crowns and hitting the cats with their fairy wands.  This morning Ingrid kept asking to dress up like the tooth fairy so I made her a wand, dug out her old crown, and put a skirt on over her PJs.  She loved it!

Halloween Party!

Yesterday afternoon we went to our friend's for a rip-roaring toddler style Halloween party.  Ingrid was SO EXCITED to try on her kitty costume!  She's been asking to use the face paint ever since we got it last week.  I made a tail to sew on her pants and it turned out so funny.  Brendan and I both thought it looked either very phallic or like a big poo.  And of course Brendan had to say that in front of Ingrid and she kept running around giggling "I pooping, Mama!" 

There were tons of toys and a bounce house and cupcakes and food.  Ingrid was in awe of everything, her attention span was about four seconds long.  And then once she got over it all she wanted to do was swing in a swing that an adult had to put her in and push...The whole point of a nice backyard party is that the parent's don't have to watch their kids!

It was a super fun time and we still have next week for trick or treating! 

Dress Up

Ingrid loves to get into my closet and find things to dress up in.  Her favorite?  High heels.  She gets more use out of them than I do!  She'll grab a purse and tell me she has to either go to work or go shopping. 

She also put on a blanket as a cape the other day and went flying.  So funny! 

Bunny Hats and Sewing Rooms

Ingrid found her old rabbit hat the other day and decided she needed to wear it.  I came into the kitchen to find she had also decided upon one rain boot to go with it.  She's got style!

I got the sewing room set up and could not be happier!!  It has been so nice to go downstairs and watch Ingrid play while I measure, cut and sew up some creations.  I am extremely pleased with how the hanging sweater holder from our old closet works at holding my fabric.  This way I see what I have, realize that no, I really don't need more, and get inspired to make things.

Here's what I was inspired to make this morning:

I love love love this deer fabric, and had been debating whether I should save it for something for etsy or use it to make something for Ingrid.  Ingrid won.  We have a birthday party to go to tomorrow and won't this look so cute??  I love the ruffle, me, the ultimate non girly girl loves ruffles for my equally non girly girl daughter.  But because I make her clothes or thrift them, I never seem to mind when she gets mud and muck all over them!

I did get some things done for etsy, too.  Six new bibs with a new and improved pattern.  It's SO MUCH EASIER to get things done when cleanup is unplugging the iron and making sure the scissors aren't in reach of a little someone instead of having to put away every last thing I had to lug out to get the job done in the first place.  Hooray for new houses!

Tutus!

This past Christmas Grandma Pam gave all the granddaughters tutus for dress up play. Even Ingrid got one, although she was only six months old at the time. I found it shoved up in the closet yesterday and decided to put it on her.
